The Neomorph army is the branch of the neomorph armed forces dealing with planetary-based operations. They are almost always deployed in tandem with elements of the Champion army.
The army's true origins remain as shrouded in mystery as those of the race themselves. It is clear, however, that the neomorphs are no strangers to armed struggle, enjoying a reputation as fierce fighters.
The neomorph army is not large in comparison to some of the forces maintained by other races, although this balance is constantly shifting as the neomorphs expand. Necessarily limited by the physical constraints of living aboard their fleet, it was only after the neomorphs settled on Nomius that they were able to found a regular army. This they did with some urgency, keen to protect their newly gained territory.
Neomorph soldiers, like their larger champion cousins, are bred and hatched from carefully cultured bloodlines refined for aggression, loyalty, and intelligence. Although neomorph maturation is rather more rapid than that of many other long-lived species, it has taken time for the first broods to mature into viable candidates for military training. As subsequent generations mature, the expansion of their forces will proceed more rapidly.
Having originated as security platoons stationed on fleet vessels, neomorphs tend to focus on small-unit tactics, particularly breach-and-storm boarding, and close-quarters combat in confined spaces such as ship passageways. While well versed in these disciplines, they lack proper doctrines and training for larger-scale ground forces.
The army is still regarded as a secondary force subservient to the needs of the Neomorph Fleet, which makes up the bulk of the neomorph's forces.
Lack of coherent formations and combat experience makes their army fairly weak, however their individual soldiers are arguably the best equipped in the galaxy, deploying with personal shields and other tech solutions that enhance their performance in combat. To compensate for their lack of numbers, the Champions were bred while the Neomorphs were in flight.
