Massively powerful and capable of direct energy manipulation, the Templar military is one of the most devastatingly effective combat forces the galaxy has ever known.

Origin

The Templar's ground forces developed a more aggressive offensive capability during the events of the Phantom Wars. Prior to that point, they had encountered little resistance in their territorial expansions. The rise of the Phantoms presented the first existential threat to the templar race, and they adapted accordingly, replicating large numbers of new individuals to raise up their own army against the enemy. Once that army was established, it played a pivotal role in the defeat of the Phantoms and the subsequent rise of the templar empire.

Following the overthrow of Templar rule at the end of the Hundred-Years War, much of the military infrastructure was decommissioned, and many templar soldiers chose to join the newly founded Stalkers. Since the founding of the Assembly, the templars have preferred to assemble ad hoc military forces as required for expeditions, relying on their navy and their highly advanced autonomous weapons systems, such as sun-harvesters, to secure their territory.

Military doctrine

Quite simply, shock and awe. Templar tactics revolve around the application of overwhelming force. Utilizing autonomous weaponry to boost their effective military strength, and impervious to many of the other races' weapons technologies, a force of templars is apt to simply mow down anything in their path.

The templars do not maintain a full-time military force, relying on volunteer recruitment to furnish troops for expeditions and their extensive stockpiles of autonomous weaponry.

Army ranks

Templars are highly individualistic, and thus do not readily conform to complex hierarchies. If a force is assembled, one commander and a handful of subordinates is deemed sufficient command and control
